چکیده

Abstract Objective The present study examined whether the everyday problems test (EPT), a performance-based measure of problem-solving, can be considered useful in assessing functional independence patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI). relationship between EPT, cognitive abilities (i.e., selective attention, set switching, and working memory) self-rated measures functioning disability these was also assessed. Method In this case–control 25 postcomatose outpatients TBI (age M = 35.9, SD 14.21) from neurorehabilitation unit matched controls were enrolled. Participants administered EPT along neuropsychological tests switching memory, disability. Results Patients less accurate slower than EPT; two groups accurately classified based on completion time (likelihood ratio χ2 28.67, R2 0.72, p < .001). patient group education attention explained large portion variance accuracy (R2 0.53, .001), while only significant 0.24, .01). Self-rated did not significantly contribute to performance variance. Conclusion Including as multifactorial approach assessment for unraveling factors contributing TBI’s impact functioning. Since attentional processes seem play role determining performance, rehabilitation should target ability first.

Everyday problem solving among individuals with Alzheimer's disease.

Loss of functioning on complex tasks of daily living is an early indicator of dementia. The performance of 65 older adults with mild to moderate levels of Alzheimer's disease was examined on the Everyday Problems Test for the Cognitively Challenged Elderly (EPCCE), self-report inventories of functional performance, and a broad battery of clinical and neuropsychological measures. The EPCCE was d...

The Revised Observed Tasks of Daily Living: A Performance-Based Assessment of Everyday Problem Solving in Older Adults.

The Revised Observed Tasks of Daily Living (OTDL-R), a performance-based test of everyday problem solving, was administered to a sample of community-dwelling older adults. The OTDL-R included nine tasks, representing medication use, telephone use, and financial management. The OTDL-R had a desirable range of difficulty and satisfactory internal consistency and showed a relatively invariant patt...

Awareness improves problem-solving performance

The brain’s self-monitoring of activities, including internal activities – a functionality that we refer to as awareness – has been suggested as a key element of consciousness. Here we investigate whether the presence of an inner-eye-like process (monitor) that supervises the activities of a number of subsystems (operative agents) engaged in the solution of a problem can improve the problemsolv...
